Hopewell Recreation and Parks is excited to announce that it has received a Meet Me at the Park grant from the National Recreation and Park Association and Disney for the King's Court Playground renovation project.  The project will include a full replacement of the existing playground, including two separate pieces of age-specific play equipment, swings, and various other site improvements like paved walkways, a nature trail, new signage, fencing, and an updated shade structure.  The grant, valued at $30,000, is designed to improve play opportunities in under-served communities.  Hopewell City Council approved the grant and appropriated $50,000 in additional funding to complete the budget for the renovation project.  King's Court Playground is located at the intersection of Waverly Street and New York Avenue in the Arlington neighborhood.

The City of Hopewell is a proud participant of the Healthy Eating Active Living Cities and Towns Campaign. The Campaign provides free technical assistance to local government leaders to help them create healthy, prosperous community environments that promote healthy eating and active living in Maryland and Virginia's cities and towns.  In 2018, Hopewell earned platinum status through it's work with the City's Comprehensive Plan, the establishment of the Heritage Gardens Learning Garden, and infrastructure improvements at various park sites across the City.

The recently renovated Woodlawn Park has been named a National Demonstration Site by PlayCore for best practices in inclusive playground design.  The new playground at Woodlawn Park features activity stations and adaptive equipment that allow persons of all ability levels to enjoy the park.  Paved walkways and designated handicap parking spaces make the park much more accessible than ever before.  To learn more about the project, click HERE.
