The City of Hopewell is currently developing plans to install bicycle lanes within existing streets across the City. Once implemented, this network of on-street bicycle lanes will connect residential neighborhoods to schools, parks, businesses, downtown destinations, and riverfront access points. Bike lanes will provide active lifestyle options and equitable transportation solutions for the citizens of Hopewell,
A project of this size and scope would typically warrant one or more information meetings where the public could review the preliminary plans and staff answer questions. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and current guidelines surrounding social gatherings, the City cannot safely host a traditional public information meeting. The City has developed this website to provide easy access to project information. As an alternative to the website, preliminary plans, a color display of the bike lane renderings, and hard copies of the survey will be available until January 20, 2021, at the Appomattox Regional Library – Hopewell Branch at 209 E Cawson Street.
To maintain the current project schedule, please complete the online survey no later than January 20, 2021. Once the public information period closes, the City will finalize the plans and advertise for construction in the spring of 2021. The City expects to complete the active connections bicycle lanes project during the summer or early fall of 2021.
Your input is very important to us as we continue development of the bicycle facility plans. If you would like to participate in the survey and do not have internet access or cannot safely travel to the library, please call the Engineering office at (804) 541-2379 and staff will coordinate delivery of project information to you.
What Will This Look Like?
To offer a better understanding of the changes to roadways presented in this project, the City and Kimley-Horn consulting have prepared section drawings that demonstrate what the bike lines would look like in 19 different areas around the City. Please click on the image of the section drawing to view all of the project areas.
