Aaron has served as the director of Recreation and Parks since 2014. In his role as director, he is responsible for the overall leadership and success of the department, including all of the department's executive responsibilities like fiscal management, strategic planning, facility design and development, and evaluation of operations. Aaron joined the team in Hopewell after working as a Recreation Manager and Recreation Programs Coordinator for Henrico County Recreation and Parks. Mr. Reidmiller attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he received a bachelor of science degree in Recreation, Parks, and Sports Management. Aaron has served as the President of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society and has been a member the VRPS Board of Directors for seven years. He is a graduate of the VRPS Leadership Training Institute and has taught as adjunct faculty at Reynolds Community College. Aaron was born and raised in the City of Hopewell and completed his college internship at the Hopewell Community Center. If you can't find Aaron in his office, that's probably because he is assisting with a special event, building a park, or teaching a class.
Tom has been with Hopewell Recreation and Parks since 2016. Tom is a graduate of Catawba College in North Carolina where he played baseball for four years. Tom was a public schools educator and athletic director in North Carolina for 18 years before moving into the recreation and parks career field where he has held positions with the cities of Randleman (NC) and Colonial Heights. Tom is responsible for the management of Hopewell's more than 200 acres of park lands and oversees all facility maintenance. Mr. Gates played an integral role in the renovations of City Park, Arlington Park, Woodlawn Park, and the King's Court Playground in addition to many other projects across the city. He is a registered Responsible Land Disturber and a graduate of the VRPS Leadership Training Institute.
Tabitha joined the team at Hopewell Recreation and Parks in 2017 as the Special Events Supervisor and was responsible for coordinating all of the department's large, citywide special events. Tabitha was later promoted to the Recreation Programs Manager position and now supervises all of the department's programs, classes, leagues, and special events. Tabitha is a graduate of Lynchburg College and holds a bachelor of arts in sports management and a master of education in administration and supervision. Before joining the team in Hopewell, Tabitha worked with Colonial Heights Recreation and Parks, Charles City County Parks and Recreation, and various positions within the private sector. Ms. Martinez was recognized as the Virginia Recreation and Park Society Outstanding New Professional in 2018, one of the state's highest honors, and is a graduate of the VRPS Leadership Training Institute.
Arlethia joined the team at Hopewell Recreation and Parks in 2005. She was initially hired as an Administrative Assistant and was later promoted to Customer Service Manager. She is responsible for all of the department's customer service functions and oversees many of the department's business functions like purchasing, accounts payable, and payroll. She also serves as the department's human resources liaison. Arlethia graduated of St. Paul’s College, Lawrenceville, VA, where she received her bachelor of science in business administration. She is a member of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society and is a graduate of the VRPS Leadership Training Institute.
Recreation Programs Supervisor - Aquatics and Outdoors
Brad Flynn has served the Recreation & Parks department since 1998. In his role with the department, Brad oversees all aquatic and outdoor recreation programs. Brad is a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, American Canoe Association Level 2 Flatwater Kayak Instructor, National Archery in Schools Program Level 2 Instructor, and a Level 1 Coach with USA Swimming. He has served on the City of Hopewell’s Vision Committee and Wellness Committee. Brad has also served on the Leadership Training Institute Board of Directors for VRPS and was awarded the VRPS President’s Award for his contributions. Brad coordinated the award-winning Heroes Camp that has become a regular summer program offering of the department.
Recreation Programs Supervisor - Community Programs
AJ McCage joined Hopewell Recreation and Parks in 2019 and manages a variety of program areas including early childhood, active adults, inclusion, and youth summer camps. Miss McCage is a 2013 Radford University Graduate who holds a bachelor of science in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism with a concentration in therapeutic recreation. She has maintained her Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist status for almost seven years. AJ currently serves as a board member for the Leadership Training Institute (LTI) and as the current Central Service Area chair of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society. AJ is also an active member of the board for the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) for Hopewell City Public Schools. She is a community advocate and has been working with the Hopewell school system to implement more enrichment programs for students during school hours. Her true passion lies within making recreation more adaptable for all to participate.
Ms. Sherry Leech has been with Hopewell Recreation and Parks since 2008, serving first in a part-time capacity with the athletics division before being hired full-time. In her role with the department, she oversees all athletic programs including youth baseball, softball, basketball and soccer. Sherry assists with a number of other program areas and oversees the gymnasium and fitness facilities at the Hopewell Community Center.
