Parent Reminders:

  • Registration closes on August 13; you must complete the registration process or join a waiting list prior to August 13

  • For age divisions that do not have enough coaches or players, waiting lists will be used to collect participant information; if enough coaches or players are found to form teams, you will receive instructions on how to complete the registration process

  • All players need their own soccer cleats with plastic studs, shin guards, and a pair of predominantly black shorts

  • The season will run from the end of August through October

  •  All practices will be held at the Atwater Soccer Complex; most games will be held at Atwater Soccer Complex but some competitive divisions may require travel to neighboring localities

  • Parents are required to remain at the field during all practices and games

  • Hopewell Recreation and Parks follows a strict code of conduct for all players, coaches, and spectators; failure to abide by the conduct may result in suspension or permanent removal from the program and/or facility

Financial Aid

Limited financial assistance is available for qualifying families. Please contact Sherry Leech to learn more about how to qualify and register for sports programs. 

Officials Needed

Are you looking for meaningful employment in the sports industry? Check out our officiating positions with our youth soccer program. No prior certification or referee experience required. All officials complete an internal training course and shadowing sessions before refereeing any matches. Officials cover a variety of age divisions from instructional to competitive. Please contact Sherry Leech for additional information on officiating opportunities.

Youth Soccer

Instructional Divisions

These age divisions are designed to teach the basics of soccer. Participants will learn fundamental skills like passing, trapping, shooting, and positioning. Coaches will focus on the principles of teamwork, sportsmanship, and following instructions. Each player will need a pair of soccer cleats with plastic studs, shin guards sized for the player's height, and a pair of predominantly black shorts. Jerseys and socks will be provided. Instructional divisions do not focus on formal competition. Parents are required to remain at the field for all practices and games. Once registration closes, teams will be fielded and coaches will contact players. Please allow two weeks after the close of registration to be contacted by your coach.

Competitive Divisions

These age divisions are designed build on fundamentals already learned while further developing individual skill level in a competitive environment. Coaches will focus on the principles of teamwork, sportsmanship, and following instructions. Each player will need a pair of soccer cleats with plastic studs, shin guards sized for the player's height, and a pair of predominantly black shorts. Jerseys and socks will be provided. Competitive divisions may include travel to neighboring localities for formal matches with Prince George, Colonial Heights, and Dinwiddie. Parents are required to remain at the field for all practices and games. Once registration closes, teams will be fielded and coaches will contact players. Please allow two weeks after the close of registration to be contacted by your coach.
